The word “confirmed” doesn’t always mean much in the world of punk rock. Silver Dollar booker Dan Burke’s grey hair can attest to that.
When his original headliner, New Jersey stoner punks Atomic Bitchwax, scrapped their tour and shelved their new CD, Burke rejigged the bill to make it a punk comeback coup for Toronto vets the Viletones. According to Burke, their spot was “confirmed.”
The Viletones flaked, and Burke had a gaping headliner hole to fill. Cue Steeltown scream kids Sailboats Are White, who managed to provide an aptly shambolic punk spectacle.

Cadence Weapon, from Edmonton, likes pina coladas, walking in the rain, foldback distortion, big drums, and personal raps. He plays rock shows and converts rock fans to the world of rap with his high 5’s and unconventional production style. More Madness!!

Sailboats are White in Pitchfork Magazine!
24/08/06Sometimes the most promising bands are those who have no concept of what’s a bad idea. Witness Sailboats Are White, a sassy half-industrial/half-hardcore act who try ripping Big Black but end up a snotty self-satisfied late-era Blur. If the “Led Eye” vocals weren’t such an afterthought, Sailboats would be a hell of a lot more listenable. But as is, there’s just some muffled blubbering about finding a “new place” before the singer wishes intestinal cancer on the listener (though not before poking your eye out with a pencil). Then come the Muzak keyboards, wet straight-though-the-boards guitar, and one big, heartfelt “Whoo!” The whole thing sounds like a gimmick gone horribly awry, like “The Rockafeller Skank” mixed with “Territorial Pissings”. A total mess, but a sincere blast.

26/07/06Comets on Fire pick Sailboats are White for their tour support on the Toronto date. Why? A phonecall was put in for the hardest fucking band in Toronto at the moment by Comets on Fire. The only one to impress was Sailboats are White and they were handpicked by the punk rock space rockers that are Comets on Fire. What the fuck? How cool is that… They are opening up on the 5th of September at Lee’s Palace.

20/07/06The Hamilton band—which replaced its original drummer with a drum machine and has embraced its mechanical wonders ever since—recently signed a worldwide deal with Poptones, the label owned by Alan McGee, who’s best known for founding Creation Records and signing ‘90s rock staples like My Bloody Valentine and Oasis.
Poptones will issue the band’s raucously lo-fi, screamo-dance, retro-punk and all-round insane debut Turbo! (already out in North America) in September. But before the band sails off to promote the disc in the U.K., it will play a number of dates on Canadian soil, including Saturday night’s show at the Forest City Gallery.
The Sailboats will be joined by Brooklyn avant indie duo Mary Halvorson and Kevin Shea, who play under the moniker People.
These people share vocal duties—guitarist Halvorson provides the light, angelic melodies, while drummer Shea balances it by uttering some scrappy, disonant gems. Released last year on New York’s I and Ear Records, People’s debut is a delightful, schizophrenic mess of ramshackle free jazz and creepy guitar noodling

The release dates of Viking Moses ‘Crosses’ and The Singleman Affair ‘Let’s Kill The Summer’ albums have been changed—to the 7th of August. Due to the demand, we had to get some good, good people of Triad Publicity in to help with the press.
And remember Viking Moses is heading over to the uk in August and will be appearing at the Greenman Festival. The Singleman Affair will be rocking it out Chicago styles at the Pitchfork festival and opening up for Six Organs of Admittance in July.
