With the pounding “Werewolves in the City” he just delivered a ferocious blind-sider that will leave you stunned and asking yourself what more the man is capable of. To a taunt, twitching beat and some deeply infectious synthesiser that recalls Lynchian-noir, “Werewolves..” account of inner-city horror exhilerates and startles with its paranoid funk. “Their tearing up children , children in the night, last night I found a kids head on my bike.” informs a voice that begins in a hauntingly wounded croon and rises to desperate howl. It’s a gory, fearful tale alright, and once heard it will stay with you. There are only 500 made of Werewolves in the City 7inch.  Poptones.co.uk have been getting emails about where and where to get this psychotically limited 7.  Below is a helpful list of shopping options… Viking Moses 2006-11-14T10:11:06+00:00 Sailboats are White Reviewed in High Voltage...! http://www.poptones.co.uk/index.php?/news/more/sailboats_are_white_reviewed_in_high_voltage/ Canada has always seemed like a fairly safe country to live in, if a small portion of Michael Moore’s film ‘Bowling for Columbine’ is to be believed. A population of passive, happy people, but like most countries it has its shady areas, such as Hamilton, an hours drive outside of Toronto. With violence on the streets, and a thriving drug culture, it’s also responsible for throwing up proto-punk’s latest nihilists, Sailboats Are White. Rock’n’roll is dead, long live rock’n’roll. This 21st century has finally superseded 1965… 1969 and 1970… and Cleveland 1975, too! It’s all been conflated into one single end-of-the-world ANIMAL HOUSE party wherein the fratrock of The Swamp Rats, The Sparkles, The Sonics and The Hangmen of Fairfield County nowadays co-habits with the lyrically enlightened post-Doors, post-MC5 early/mid-70s proto space-metal of Granicus, Groundhogs, Bleib Alien, B.O.C., and most of Todd Clark’s various incarnations. What my saying? I’m saying, Brothers’n’Sisters, that the king is dead, long live the king and all the great truisms and platitudes of the West are henceforth shown to be real … Punk’s not dead, the north will rise again, don’t eat the brown acid, only the industrial heartlands make for classic rock’n’roll, King Arthur’s only sleeping, divorces makes winners only out of the lawyers, and that ain’t no way to treat a lady… Vincent Black Shadow 2006-11-13T11:43:23+00:00 Boomkat love the Singleman Affair's debut 7inch 'Oh To Say/Leaving a Mark' http://www.poptones.co.uk/index.php?/news/more/boomkat_love_the_singleman_affairs_debut_7inch_oh_to_say_leaving_a_mark/ You might have read our review of The Singleman Affair (Dan Schneider)’s full length ‘Let’s Kill the Summer’ and it’s safe to say that we liked it a lot. There aren’t many people who can make sunny 60s folk pop sound so damn inviting, and now we’ve got a 7” single - it seems like a match made in heaven and to be quite honest, as soon as needle hits wax you’ll be praying to whichever lord you feel most in tune with. ‘Oh to Say’ is an unashamedly beautiful piece of music, and then flip the record over and we’re treated to the exclusive track ‘Leaving a Mark’ which sounds just like Simon and Garfunkel, whistling and all. I think it’s the way that Schneider records that has me so giddy, I honestly wouldn’t bee surprised if someone told me that these were actually recordings from the late 60s, that’s how great they sound. Londoner Gareth Goddard aka Cherrystones - a brilliant ‘eclecticist’ DJ is one of the finest psychedelic rock ‘crate diggers’ around and his compilations are always worth a spin.  Word is no exception, with a psychedelic smorgasbord of staggeringly obscure but intriguingly talented combos like, ermm, Pan and Regaliz, Kontakt Mikrofoon Orkfest and Bintangs covering every point between Hendrix, The Mc5, AC/DC, Barrett-era Floyd and even - surprisingly often - Meters style funk. The global reach of the compilation gives a heartening sense of an imagined time when every town worldwide had a gang of longhairs thundering away in their garage with all the crackling power of their megastar idols.  Recording quality is variable but an urgency and delight in rocking out ‘in the now, man’ shine though on everyone of these nuggets. Poptones Imagine Black Flag losing the plot and beating a befuddled yet remarkably resilient Human League to a bloody pulp with a drum machine and you might be halfway to imagining the sheer abrasive energy of SAW’s individual brand of furious electro-hardcore.  Both superbly violent and unexpectedly poignant, this is a band truly worth investigating.
