Cherrystones lays down his top ten for Fingermag.com....

21/03/07

is what one calls a Vinyl Junkie. A haunted freak to the psychedelic beat, the discovery channel of forgotten platters that somehow never really mattered. His furious DJ sets and mixes definitely set a world on fire. Hipster labels like Twisted Nerve, 13 Amp, Poptones and Whatever We Want Records all grabbed for a piece of the Cherrystones cake. And releases either his mixes or his own, totally freaked out otherworldly prodcutions under the moniker Godsy.

The Laughing Windows in psyche-throwdown....

19/03/07

The Laughing Windows in a psychedelic throw-down—The Laughing Windows are opening up for Dead Meadow in August for the long hot summer in London.  Details to be confirmed.  What?  You can’t wait?  No mind.  You can always go over to their myspace page and listen to the tracks from their forthcoming mini-album.  And remind yourself that the Cherrystones remix of Opel Hair is going to be fantastic.  The people at the office are calling it the ‘Dub Sabbath’ remix.  And yes, Cherrystones set out to shake your ribcage with the bottom end of Opel Hair. So err… look out!

Other Music lays some praise down on Cherrystones Word!

19/03/07

What is so great about Cherrystones’ mixes is first, you are drawn into his cavernous resource of rarely tread upon jams by a harmless little break and suddenly you are plunging into the depths of full-on psych funk, world funk, freak funk, funk prog and whatever else lurks beneath the musty lands known as “crate-digging-ton.” Word reeks of just-dislodged tasty morsels and also some near and dear choice bits of dirty jams. What a berserk and beautiful comp! Fellow spelunkers of sound will be delighted to hear tracks by Chrome, the Deviants, Pan & Regaliz and Lard Free among such surprises as Roger C. Reale & Rue Morgan’s glammed-out cover of the Troggs “I Can’t Control Myself” and the driving yet jerky, synth-art-rock dancer “Do the Residue” by Kontakt Mikrofoon Orkest. There is such a melee of sound within and Mr. Goddard includes tenderly written liner notes for each track, explaining away any lack of cohesion with the intensity of a fanboy supreme. Listening, it’s hard to imagine such a cerebral mix packing the dancefloor. But, as relayed to me by many at Rubulad last December, people were in fact all over dancing, all crushed up on each other and then bang! In “Dead Moon Night,” Fred screams out, “It’s way across the room!” That must’ve been a mindbender! Yeah, there are gems all over this thing and those who follow Gareth Goddard are accustomed to nothing less. You won’t be disappointed. [NL]

Cherrystones remixes the Sessions!

12/03/07

Poptones spent a Friday night down at Cherrystones where he played us the new remix of the Sessions.  AND IT IS BIG.  Bigger than bigger.  Its Al-Dope-Capone big.  Cherrystones salutes the Creation Records of Yore by turning The Sessions ‘What is this Feeling’ into an afrobeat-glammed-up-street-tuff-primal-scream-with-balls number that leaves blood on the walls on Poptones Records Offices where we played it continuallly until late in the night.  Its genius.  And you need this.
