Everything You Wanted To Know About Poptones But Were Afraid To Ask Part 2

07/06/06

Hi!

We take a break from obsessively watching the Big Brother website (Housemate sits on chair!  Housemate makes breakfast!) to give you a Poptones News Update!

Change of Name!

First up—Poptones is changing the name!  In accordance to our bylaws as set by Alan McGee, he thinks a name change should be order to reflect all the changes that have happened to the label.  The name change being: Poptones Recording Corporation.  Why?  Because Cherrystones kept on referring to Poptones as the Poptones Recording Corporation to him at Dead Meadow and it just sorta’ stuck.  Hooray!

The Singleman Affair and Viking Moses

We’ve got alot of things to put up for the Singleman Affair—the response to this album has been fantastic.  Just goes to show you that putting out good music is the best and most basic formula for a record label.  To check the recent the recent feature on The Singleman Affair in the Chicago Reader by clicking below...and remember his album ‘Let’s Kill The Summer’ is available on the 17th of July.

We are in the midst of putting together a tour to coincide with the release of Viking Moses’ Crosses out on Poptones Recording Corporation on the 31st of July.  Whilst we get those dates together for you—Viking Moses is putting the finishing touches on his second album ‘The Parts That Showed’ down at the Oldham homestead.

Cherrystones

Cherrystones is going to be hitting NYC in promotion of his forthcoming compilation Cherrystones Word and his two eps on Whatever We Want Records.  Deep inside the Cherrystones Headquarters they are plans and documentations being put together for more Cherrystones stuff ... and if I said anything they would probably kill me.  And that would be no good.  In fact that would kind of suck.  But the original psychedelic gangsta’ is coming back strong.

King Biscuit Time

And in other news ...

Sailboats are White are out on tour with Aids Wolf ... terrorising Canadian towns near you.  Alan and Joe from Icarus Line met up over lunch and the result being that we are now doing the vinyl version of the forthcoming Icarus Line album.  The as of yet unnamed Icarus Line album has been in heavy rotation at Poptones Recording Corporation’s offices and could be contender for one of the finest rock’n’roll albums of 2006.  Alan held an impromptu myspace Poptones idol search from his myspace which heralded over 2,000 responses.  We have it narrowed down to two acts and we’ve still not gotten through all the responses.  Trashmonk returns to Poptones.co.uk land after a hiatus, working on his follow up to the 1999 Creation Records effort Mona Lisa Overdrive.  We had heard a 7-minute long track that was an insane glam-psych-jam.  And a former Creation Records superstar has been contacted and contracted to release an album in 2007—we can’t say who it is but he is old-school Creation having releases two critically acclaimed albums on the label.  Needless to say we are all excited.
