In Noise Annoys when its good shocka’—from iheartmusic.com
suspect that a lot of people are really going to loathe Sailboats Are White’s debut, Turbo. This suspicion is based largely on the reaction of one friend, who heard the album once a few months ago and still gets a look on her face that’s somewhere between horror and revulsion whenever it’s mentioned.
Admittedly, it’s easy to see how songs like “Veto” and “Throwing The Fight” could be a little off-putting if you’re not the sort of person who likes their music loud and abrasive. It sounds, however, like it would translate extremely well to a live setting (and, judging by the pictures on their “Myspace, it certainly looks like it does), what with all the howling vocals and crashing drums and whatnot. And the fact that Alan (Mr. “I discovered Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Oasis") McGee just signed them to his Poptones label and compares SAW to Public Image Limited, Big Black and Black Flag should count for something, too. Turbo may not be liked by everybody...but who wants to listen to what everyone else is listening to?
