New Noise reviews As Templar Nites!
27/09/06And remember everyone, the sister band of the Icarus Line is released on Poptones Records on the 9th of October. To order your own copy please click here.
What would you imagine an Icarus Line sister band to sound ike? Just think about that for a second. What would you imagine it to sound like? Well, after careful consideration of such an excursion, it’s still deceptively hard to say. In fact, if you asked the band, its unlikely they’d know how to answer the question themselvese!
This debut is an enticing prospect. The list of comparisons to other contemporaries is nigh on endless. So much so that each song could plausibly be a completely different band. Opening with by far the strongest cut, ‘Sunken City,’ Souls She Said hit out with a ranging, flitting dance track set to a coupe of jagged guitar stabs before opening into the best song Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah have never written. The lazy vocals, slurring through a concaved guitar/beats track to great effect.

Brooklyn Vegan reports on Souls She Said
22/09/06One of my favorite album’s of this year, (so far) is Souls She Said’s As Templar Nites (Poptones). It features singer Joe Cardamone and guitarist Don Devore of The Icarus Line. Imagine The Icarus Line becoming some sort of schizophrenic, distorted, yet somewhat happy dance projecy. [Indie Christoph]

Entertainment Weekly Review Souls She Said
19/09/06AS TEMPLAR NITES Moonlighting from destructo-metallers the Icarus Line, Souls She Said singer Joe Cardamone and guitarist Don Devore explore their inner funkiness with a full-length debut that’s as toe-tapping as it is darkly malevolent. So when Cardamone howls, ‘’Everybody get on the floor!’’ you’re not sure if he’s encouraging people to dance or to rob a bank. (Out on the 9th of October - to pre-order please click here.

This is the first full-length from The Icarus Line frontman Joe Cardamone and guitarist Don Devore, aka Souls She Said. These recordings are a definite departure and serve as the more beat driven, dark indie rock cousin to Icarus Line’s beautifully gory lo-fi sound.
Recorded in Philadelphia and right here in Australia, ‘As Templar Nites’ still incorporates Cardamone’s haunting voice and lyrics and Devore’s perfectly jagged and distorted guitar works, and is neither the car-crash-scream-core-fest of the Icarus Line, nor the self-indulgence that solo projects often end up sounding like. Full of spiked up and jagged art-rock riffs that have been booted out of Iggy Pop’s Nightclub, it makes spiraling out-of-control sound great. They draw on post-punk influences but without wearing the t-shirt of their favorite bands.

14/09/06Ever been to that party? Scuzzed-out, sleazed, drugged-up and loved-up party in a house where it looks like it is only seconds before that police bust is going to happen? Yeah? Well now you’ve got the soundtrack – ‘As Templar Nites’ by Souls She Said.
Souls She Said are Joe Cardamone and Don Devore of the Icarus Line. Yes, that Icarus Line, the Altamount-era Rolling Stones, glam-crunch-not, Blag Flag, last-punk-rock-band-on the-face-of-the-earth Icarus Line.

Putting their best foot forward from the off, Soul She Said’s debut record opens with what is easily its strongest track, “Sunken City.” Strongly influenced by My Bloody Valentine, early Primal Scream and probably a whole host of hallucinogens, it’s the prefect balance to the Icarus Line’s dark back alley, class A take on The Stooges.

Drownedinsound.com report on the new Souls She Said album
16/08/06The debut album from Souls She Said, As Templar Nites, is to receive an official UK release this September through Poptones.
The nine-track long-player is the first domestic release from the band, whose core is comprised of The Icarus Line’s Joe Cardamone and Don Devore. We just played it in the office. It’s pretty hawt.
A slower, more psychedelic offering than any existing Icarus Line record, As Templar Nites serves as a perfect stopgap between the LA punks’ last effort, Penance Soiree, and their forthcoming Black Lives At The Golden Coast (with the vinyl coming out on Poptones Recording Corporation).
Heck, you can even dance to this SSS album. We didn’t, but only ‘cause we’re shy. As Templar Nites is out on September 25.

Souls She Said - Demo City
15/08/06Don is at the moment recorded a series of demos in NYC with the Bardo Pond/Delta 72 drummer --- why? We are in the midst already of planning some sick shit with the new Souls She Said stuff. Its currently under wraps at the moment but what can I say? Its going to be good. And it will be a treat.
But in the meantime you will have to contend with the dance-dance-psych-revolution which is As Templar Nites—which we are releasing on the 28th of September. If you wanna check out the album why not hit their myspace by clicking below?
