Jana Hunter could be considered part of the WILD-NU-PSYCH-FOLK-WORLD-OF-FREEK-OUT-MUSIC…

however, one listen to the
tracks on her myspace would represent that as the ultimate fallacy in
hipster-tagging - why?  Because the songs contained within are not just
fashion-without-passion styles of many others.  Within her songs sings
a Texan-soul not unlike the music of Doug Sahm and Roky Erikson because
each of the tracks could be an orchestrated motown number, an
ye-olde-blues-show, or a Carole King piano stomper ... even her voice
is something without-genre—moving it back and forth from the pretty
yelps of Joanna Newsome to the throaty space-blues growers and lazy
psychedelia of ‘Untitled - Hanging Around’.  Jana Hunter’s newest album
‘Blank Unstaring Heirs of Doom’ has recently been released on Devendra
Banhart’s label Gnomonsong.  YOU LOVE IT!
