Loose Fur is a colloborative effort between Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and
Jim O’Rourke who previously released the self-titled effort return with
Born Again In The USA.

Whilst the previous one was exercises in
beautiful folk songs and deranged experiementation, it is not ironic
that they chose to call this one ‘Born Again In The USA’ as songs such
as Hey Chicken and Pretty Sparks return to JIm O’Rouke’s unrequited
love of the trash guilty 70s classics of Supertramp and Genesis.
Crunchy prog-pop that stops and starts in the catchy ‘Stupiud as The
Sun’ whilst others maintain the autumnal and pretty pastorals of their
debut.  Others such as Pretty Sparks goes straight up into the
prog-rock sun with descending basslines and stabs of keyboards and
steel guitars.  The instrumental ‘An Ecumenical Matter’ moves direct
into soundtrack territory before moving into the big pop of Wreckroom.
Though, its a shame that Loose Fur is a studio project that won’t see
Jeff Tweedy or Jim O’Rourke recreating their moves on-stage, one listen
to Born Again In The USA, is a baptism into the uniquely pop-warped
worldview of both Tweedy and O’Rourke.
