Poptones.co.uk has four essential items for your shopping list...!

James Blackshaw
Important Records

James Blackshaw’s debut record ‘O True Believers’ is an exercise in
John Fahey soul.  With four tracks, it trails down the cascades of pure
folk music with exercises going through into the cosmic territory of
the psychedelic post-war blues.  Yet, it contains an urgency within the
grooves that leaves it in the rock’n’roll plantation of the truly mad.
So if you open it up and expect tweeness and patchouli, you will be
sorely disappointed…

Mouthus
Important Records

So this is what madness sounds like?  A sister record to all of you
out in Flux-land who bought Wolf Eyes, this is the soundtrack to a
lethal psychotic killing underwritten with dirty-drone-rock howls and
music that sounds like My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless in a house fire
explosion.  This one is for the sick ‘uns who laugh all the way through
Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Dungen - Festival
Subliminal Sounds

Dungen was last year’s surprise.  Having risen out of the ashes of
Swedish cultdom like fellow countrymen The Hives, they have been lauded
pretty much everywhere and anywhere on a solid ‘net to know basis.  And
Festival carries on the tradition of a band making the big psyche pop
and suceeding—why?  Hard to say—from the vocals, to the subltle
hip-hop beats and super phat guitar solos.  And b-side is a
flute-driven prog-rock wonder. ‘Tis a winner.

Pufnstuf Soundtrack
El Records

El Records have finally released the soundtrack to Sid and Marty
Croft’s psychedelic children’s television show ‘Pufnstuf’ ... and the
results are predictably bizarre, from the cockeynisms of child actor
Jack Wild through to the over-the-top Sgt Peppers arrangements of the
songs.  LSD treats include ‘Zap the World’ with Martha Raye and Billie
Rayes giving out creepy-crawley witch voices against an
Xanax-prescription-based chorus that will stick in your head for days
or the big-psych pop of Mama Cass Ellliot on ‘Different’.  Creepily
good.
