Interesting article on Cherrystones from the Aythtok Blog to read the article please click below. And remember Cherrystones Word is out in June on Poptones Records.
DJ Cherrystones AKA Gareth Godard. Interesting fella. The thing that strikes me the most is the strange synchronicity between Cherrystones and Quiet Village. For Halloween last year they both did special mixes for the occasion. Both played music from horror soundtracks and both played Don’t Fear The Reaper. The force is strong with the new movement. Joel Martin from Quiet Village actually works for Christies auction house, in the pop department. Gareth Godard is the kinda guy who buys really expensive records. I suspect he doesn’t fall for those Christies prices though. He hunts them down, I reckon. Cherrystones is considered to be the best Psych rock DJ around at the moment. He pretty much perfected the concept, due to the fact that he has mixing skills from hip hop. Echoes of DJ Ayres in New York and Pharmaceutical Executive in Chicago. Todays choices (hey! direct links! Albeit is at someone else’s expense! Alan McGee!) are all from Cherrystones. First up is his Halloween mix for Resonance FM, which is mindblowing in its depth. The second mix is in two parts, and was recorded for the Beeb. It features a folky kinda vibe. Like Black Sabbath. There is a tracklisting on his blog at Poptones, where you will find more mp3’s too.
