Viking Moses and The Singleman Affair - Yup, we’ve been listening to our own stuff again.  But who can blame us when The Singleman Affair’s debut ‘Lets Kill The Summer’ kicks up such a psychedelic storm and Viking Moses UK debut of Crosses is a down-home soul treat.  We’ve produced 500 more copies of the limited edition Viking Moses 7” for his forthcoming UK tour.

Main Source - Early hip-hop pioneers that fell on Poptones radar after listening to the demo from the forthcoming Cherrystones album—when asked what is his biggest influence beatwise—Cherrystones said ‘Main Source --without a doubt’ .... and we went out and paid money for Main Source vinyl that would clothe a small child for a year.

Will Seargent - Themes for Grind - Fresh from his appearance on the new Primal Scream album (controversy rages on—is it rubbish or genius—Will saves it for me!)—Poptones looks back at his early EP ‘Themes for Grind’ and reminscences when they had it but lost it.  If anyone has a copy of this email

Comets on Fire - Avatar - San Francisco’s premier acid rockers are back on form with Avatar.  Perfect for hot, druggy days....

The Gentle People - Rephex - Weird oddity on Warp imprint when easy listening was the new punk rock.  Funny because of the repeated ‘We love the Gentle People...’ inserted inbetween songs.

The Smiths - Still Ill - Classic song to sing before you start work in the morning?  Ask me why and I’ll spit in your eye....

Simply Saucer - They hail from the town of Hamilton.  The same as Poptones new signings - Sailboats are White.  Steeltown acid punks.  Wanna know what psychedelic punk tastes like?  Put this on and slowly fade away in the heat. 

Webster Lewis and the Post-Pop Space-Rock Be-Bop Gospel Taberancle Orchestra and Chorus - Love is the Way - Classic underground disco rocker with probably the best name evah.  Poptones has this on 7”.  And its bound to light up any evening.

Joan Baez and Ennio Morricone - ‘Here’s to You’ - Another 7” purchased in France, this was recently featured in the Life Aquatic.  But was originally the soundtrack for the film ‘Sacco E Vanzetti’—nice lilting vocal from Baez against the amazing Morricone backing.

Aphrodite’s Child - It’s Five O’Clock w/Funky Mary - Another picture sleeve purchased in France.  Funky Mary is just big, phat, psych-funk that was featured on Pete Fowler’s compilation ‘Monsterism Island’.

Lou Reed - Street Hassle - Ok I have to admit I used to think what the fuck is up with Lou Reed—its all been rubbish after Berlin.  But then I heard the 12inch of Street Hassle and thought ‘Fuck me I’ve been wrong all this time!’.

Ruth Anne Friedman - She wrote The Association’s Windy!  She has an ace album out!  And she’s playing at the Devendra Banhart/Arthur Magazine curated festival with Viking Moses!

Sergio Mendes - Chelsea Morning - A piano and percussion oriented cover of Joni Mitchell’s Chelsea Morning.  Probably better than anything Saint Etienne has ever recorded.
